User Guide English

Welcome to the LIGHT MY BRICKS™ USER GUIDE

Light My Bricks LED lighting components are specially made to complement the LEGO® building system.

This user guide is intended to help you identify the various components of Light my Bricks, as well as ensure proper handling to ensure a hassle-free installation.

Which components are there from Light my Bricks?

STRIP LIGHTS (Self-adhesive LED light strips)

Strip Lights contain two individual LEDs and have an adhesive backing that allows them to be glued directly onto LEGO® 1x6 sheets for easy assembly. Strip Lights are available in different colors.

BIT LIGHTS (Tiny LEDs)

Bit Lights are tiny LEDs that fit onto LEGO® and have cables designed to fit under and between LEGO® bricks. Bit Lights are available in different colors and effects.

EXPANSION BOARDS (expansion slot or board)

Expansion boards allow multiple components to be connected. Simply plug your bit lights, connection cables and power supplies into an available port on an expansion board to create a circuit.

In the picture you can see a 6-way, 8-way and 12-way slot

CONNECTING CABLES

Connecting Cables can be used to connect components such as strip lights and expansion boards together.

POWER OPTIONS

Light My Bricks offer a variety of power options including battery power, USB or LEGO® Power Functions.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION THAT MUST BE OBSERVED

Light My Bricks components are often custom made and intentionally small to fit under and between LEGO® bricks and studs. However, this also means that the components are sensitive and should always be handled with care.

ROUTING CABLES BETWEEN LEGO® bricks

Cables can be routed between and under LEGO® bricks, slabs and tiles/tiles as long as they are routed correctly between the LEGO® studs. DO NOT force LEGO® pieces to connect to the wires, make sure they fit snugly between each stud.

ATTENTION: If you force LEGO® components over a cable, the cable and the LEDs can be damaged.

CONNECTING LINK CABLES TO STRIP LIGHTS

Be extra careful when inserting the plugs into the Strip Lights. Connectors can only be plugged in one way. Make sure the side of the cable connector with the wires is facing down and the strip light is facing up.

CAUTION: If the connector does not easily insert into a port, do not force it into place. Otherwise, the plug and the connector will be damaged..

CONNECTING CABLES TO EXPANSION BOARDS

Be particularly careful when inserting the connectors into the expansion board connectors. Connectors can only be plugged in one way. With the expansion card facing up, note the soldered "=" symbol on the left side of the connector.

The side of the connector where the wires are exposed should face the soldered "=" symbol when you insert it into the connector.

If a plug does not fit easily into a port, do not force it into place. Make sure the connector is facing the right way before trying to connect it again.

The exposed wires must point in the direction of the "=" sign.

The connection must not be made by force. This can bend the connector pins.

CONNECTING MICRO CABLE CONNECTIONS TO MICRO EXPANSION BOARD CONNECTORS

Be especially careful when connecting the micro connectors to the micro connectors of the micro expansion boards (slots). Connecting micro bit lights to micro expansion boards is similar to connecting LEDs and cables to LED strip lights. Make sure the side of the connector with the exposed wires is facing down, while the expansion card is facing up. If a connector does not fit easily into a port, do not force it into place.

Use your fingernail to press the plastic part of the connector into the micro connector.

Exposed wires should face down.

The connection must not be made by force. This can bend the connector pins.

LED INSTALLATION DIAGRAM

Below is an example circuit diagram showing how the components can be used to light up your LEGO® model.

"Before You Begin" Notes

Before You Begin

The Symbols Used In the original Light my Bricks PDF instructions.

When going through the Light my Bricks PDF guides you will come across symbols and formats that will assist with the installation of your light kit. Take notice of them as each has a specific purpose.

Light Kit Component

This is the most important image format as it indicates which part to use from the Light Kit. Make sure you pay close attention to which part is shown.

Connect

Used when you need to connect a LEGO® piece or LMB component.

Disconnect

Used when you need to remove a LEGO® piece/ section or LMB component.

Directional

Used to show where to route cables, place components, or move them.

Bend/Pivot

Used when a component needs to be bent, or part folded or pivoted.

Turn/ Flip

Will be found in the top left corner when the set needs to be rotated or flipped.

Twist/ Braid

Seen when a set of cables need to be grouped and twisted together.

Power On Test

Found at the end of a major step to test the lights. Will be located in the top left corner.

Note

Notes will be found alongside the instruction photos and explain what to do.

Before You Begin

Repeat Step

Repeat the previous step eg.
Make a spotlight, then make a second spotlight.

Connect Focus

Used to highlight a hard to see area where a component is being connected.

Disconnect Focus

Used to highlight a hard to see area where a component is being disconnected.

General Focus

Used to highlight a hard to see area where a component needs to be acted on.

General Note

This is a sample note that is used anywhere in this guide. It will explain a difficult section where photos are hard to illustrate or easily confused.

Connect Note

The green coloured note is used when the topic focuses on a component being connected, like the shown Power Bank.

Disconnect Note

The red coloured note is used when the topic focuses on a component being disconnected or like here, the removed pieces.
